Air Force fighters took on Army attack helos in combat experiment

Ever wonder what it might be like if the Air Force and the
Army suddenly got sick of each others shit and had an air war? I say air war because
we know the ground war would probably be over pretty quick. The technology and weapon systems used by the Air Force these days
is pretty incredible. No one would blame you
for assuming the Air Force would totally dominate the skys, but you know what happens when you assume. You make an ass out of you and me. You get it. They actually wargamed to this
air-to-air combat scenario in what they call JCAH, or Joint Countering Attack Helicopter. Sorry Air Force, you
got wasted in this one and it wasn’t even close. You can’t blame it on the F-35 either, in fact, the only saving
graces of the F-35 and F-22 weren’t around when
they conducted the exercises. But Captain Corbay you might say, it was just one experiment, it was probably a fluke. Nope, the Army got you there too. It was a series of test, run as the Soviets began building up their helicopter fleets. Yes, a series of tests, in four phases, over two weeks, and the Army won. Starting in 1978, the first phase was a set of simulations that also included the Marine Corp. The second phase was a
HELO on HELO field test, where new tactics to combat the
Russian hind were developed. Phase three was were the Fighters came in. The Air Force chose F-4s,
A-7s, A-10s, and F-15s to go up against whatever the
Army wanted to throw at them. Air Force pilots didn’t even
realize they’d been attacked or destroyed until the daily debriefing. The tactics developed by the
Army pilots were so good, they ended up having to
inform the Air Force enemy they were toast via radio. Red-5, you’re dead. You’ve been dead for a long time. When all was said and done, the Army beat the Air Force five to one. The final phase was the Analysis Phase, where it was determined that fighters should avoid helicopters at all cost. Unless, they have superiority
of distance or altitude. Like, comment, and share this video. Congratulations Army. You earned this one. We still have better Challis though.

  1. Hoah!!!! Go Army! But that last comment is so true, itโ€™s not right that we fight for the same country but get treated differently. ๐Ÿ˜ก

  2. The thing that makes this really good is both sides got better and developed new tactics. It keeps people from dying in combat. Each branch of the military always has pride in who they are ans secretly thinks they are the best, hands down no holds barred. Good job Army but you can bet the Air Force pukes will be planning to dominate the next time you meet. Have you thought of doing the same test with all branches of the service involved? You skipped the navy pilots. I think they should be invited next time as well, becasue anybody crazy enough to thing being launched by catapult and landing on a moving pitching runway is normal might make it really interesting.

  3. Army and Airforce screaming about who wins
Navy watches from a distance, sighing as Coast Guard walks up
Costie: Army and Airboi in a pissing match again?

Navy: Yep. Army rotorbirds beat the Airforces Jets…

Costie: Why dont we have a simulated war game?

    Navy: * lowers eyebrow*…..

    Costie: Never mind….
….By the way where is Marines?

Navy: Points a thumb over his shoulder

*Marine is screaming loudly and stabbing a water bucket with a mop like its a bayonet and rifle "AAHHH MARINE CORPS MARINE CORPS MARINE CORPS!!!"

    Navy:…….I asked him to mop….

Marine shoots bucket with a .45

  4. I'm surprised, but not that surprised. Helicopters are hard to hit, especially at close range, and can do things fighters simply can't for evasion.

  5. Well, it was the 1970s, and seeing as how the Air Force was a very new branch at the time, I don't blame them for losing.

  6. I was in a Air Defense unit (Hawk) in Germany and the USAF with their A-10โ€™s got us every single time during combat training and they showed us who is the Boss!!!

  7. During the two-week exercise, the helicopters proved devastating to the fixed-wing aircraft. In most cases the fighter pilots had no idea they were being "attacked" until they returned to base for debriefing. This led to a series of claims and counter-claims, so for the second week the helicopter pilots were instructed to follow Air Force procedure and call out "guns-guns-guns" when "firing". The kill ratio in favor of the helicopters climbed even higher during this period. Over the entire two-week period, the outcome was a 5-to-1 ratio in favor of the helicopters

  8. Awesome video!!thank you. However, we got wasted when we went up against 4 F-14 vs 4 SH-60B helos…. I mean we got DESTROYED!๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ Never even saw them

  9. What ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ man im a Airforce guy.
But what would happen if the redo the test again ? With the Raptor and F35 and hornets around ??

  10. Correct me if im wrong but didnt they say if this was run today the air force would win as they would have the edge on range something about radar getting better and the fighters ability to detect the helo at range and longer missile range a fighter can use it heat seaking missiles at linger range than the helos wire guided munitions and for guns ita kinda 50/50 as the jet has speed and ability to get an angle of attack but the army has tracking and armor

  11. Army: I brought you into this world son, and I can take you out of it
Air Force: Hold my sippy cup.
Army: I'm so ashamed but in the new Army we have to accept them for their… Uniqueness?

  12. I say boo for not including Naval Aviators…everyone knows we are the best in the world ๐Ÿ˜‰…and you don't mention distance or altitude in this video! I could fire from a much further distance and just go straight up…

Edit: sorry at the end of the video she does mention altitude and distance.

  13. How do you not include the Navy?! We are the tip of the spear! Every Army and Air force in the world is afraid of us! We are the first ones to establish air superiority…the first ones to establish air to ground superiority…lol y'all can't even establish a base without us clearing the way! There is a reason why we have gold wings..๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคฃ and we have our own soldiers…they are called Marines…and they will rip you a new asshole…
